BMW M's First SUV Debuts This Month

Industry News / Comments

The XM is set to make a grand entrance.

BMW's M Division is working on its first-ever self-made SUV, and it's set to be the most powerful production BMW ever made. It's called the XM, although the name X8 has also been suggested, and we're expecting it to be loaded with the latest and greatest tech that BMW has to offer. The rumor mill further claims that the monstrous SUV will be built in the US, and back in June, we heard that the luxury behemoth might even launch this year.

Thanks to BMW North America, we can now confirm that the BMW XM (or X8?) will indeed be launching this year - before the end of this month, in fact.

Sadly, BMW has given us very little information beyond confirming that the new SUV will be built domestically at Plant Spartanburg in South Carolina and that all information relating to the vehicle will be revealed in the evening of Monday, November 29.

The automaker hasn't confirmed the name of the new SUV and has only said that Franciscus van Meel, BMW M Design boss, will present "an all-new high-powered, hybrid-electric vehicle," but we know exactly what model the German brand is alluding to. That's not all BMW had to announce, however, revealing news about Mini and BMW Motorrad, its motorcycle division, too.

For the first time in the US, Mini will display the Vision Urbanaut concept, an all-new creation that is focused on sustainability through electric mobility and the reuse of otherwise worthless materials that are given a second life as eco-friendly fabrics and finishings. Meanwhile, BMW Motorrad will facilitate the US debut of the 2022 BMW CE 04 electric scooter. This follows from a few electric two-wheeler concepts that were recently revealed. The CE 04 will arrive early next year.

Of course, we're most interested in seeing the new BMW M SUV, but if the spy shots are anything to go by, we might not be able to look at it for too long. We'll learn more following BMW's "immersive brand experience" at The Grove in Los Angeles on November 16 and 17.
