BMW broke the mold when it launched the X6 crossover back in 2008. Including conventional, hybrid and M performance versions, the X6 line has been a surprising success for the German automaker and now we're getting some new details regarding its upcoming redesign. According to a report from Autocar, the 2014 X6 will feature a more aggressive exterior design that could be partly inspired by the 4 Series coupe concept that debuted at the Detroit Auto Show last month.
The new X6 will still share its platform with the more versatile X5, but will grow slightly in size to offer increased interior space - one of the biggest drawbacks of the current model. Another issue with the current X6 is weight, but the new model's high-strength steel chassis aims to rec tify that, along with the removal of the torque-vectoring axles. Base models may also ditch the self-leveling air suspension. Expect the same range of engines - including 3.0-liter turbo six, 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 and hybrid - to carry over. The new X5 is expected later this year, with the new X6 to follow.
