BMW has announced the U.S. debut of their compact luxury crossover, the X1, will be delayed until late 2012. Although it's been on sale in Europe and other parts of the world for several months now, it was originally supposed to arrive stateside in early 2011. The reason for the delay? The all-new X3. Sales for the newly redesigned (and more expensive) model in the U.S. have been better than predicted and BMW seeks to capitalize on this for as long as possible.

Another reason is that demand for the X1 in those other markets has also been quite high, making it difficult for suppliers to keep up. However, if you must have an X1 today, then we suggest heading up to Canada where the car is currently on sale.
