Brabus is the type of tuner that feels no shame in taking conservative design and turning it on its head. Along with wild styling changes, the company is well-known for its ability to turn just about any Mercedes product into a luxury missile like no other. it has worked on everything from the legendary G-Class to the humble Smart ForTwo. The tuner has also recently turned its attention to Mercedes-AMG's luxury SUVs like the GLE and GLS, and now it's gone after the Maybach version of the latter. Called the Brabus 800, this is a Maybach GLS with a cabin designed to assault your eyes.

We'll get to the controversial cabin shortly, but first, let's take a look at the performance upgrades. Brabus has fitted two new turbochargers, a plug-and-play Brabus PowerXtra control module, and a high-performance exhaust with active sound management. Altogether, the changes give the GLS 600 4MATIC an increase of 240 horsepower and 162 lb-ft, taking peak figures to 788 hp and 701 lb-ft. This means 0-62 is now possible in just 4.5 seconds, although the weight of the vehicle won't allow it to safely go beyond its electronic limiter at 186 mph. With a three-year/62,000-mile warranty, you can have total peace of mind every time you bury the loud pedal.

Onto the looks, and this SUV gets a matte black exhaust tip on each side, with all chrome parts given Shadow Gray glazing for a more uniform look. There's a new front spoiler for less high-speed lift, carbon trim for the intakes in the front bumper, and a new lower section at the rear with a center diffuser. Monoblock M "Platinum Edition" 24-inch alloys in Shadow Chrome hide inside carbon-trimmed wheel arches. These wheels measure 10 inches in width at the front and a whopping 12 inches at the rear.

As for that eye-searing cabin, Brabus will fulfill just about any request, but this commission is finished in Leonis Orange breathable leather with Shadow Gray switches and trim elements. Naturally, there's more carbon fiber in here too, along with a Brabus-designed business console with two retractable tables. Pricing is not available, but Brabus can tailor the entire package to your liking, or only add certain stages thereof to a regular GLS.
