The Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport is on its run-out phase of production as the company prepares for the model's official successor. But before it can wrap things up, it has to resolve an issue it has uncovered regarding the rear tires of models that have already been shipped. Based on the announcement issued by the NHTSA, nine units are potentially affected.

The recall states that Bugatti is recalling select 2021 and 2022 Chiron Pur Sport models that have cleared 2,500 miles as, after this point, cracks are beginning to form in the rear tires that were created by Michelin. That's not something you want to confront in a car that is capable of reaching a top speed of 218 mph.

As per the announcement, dealers will initiate an interim repair by replacing the rear tires on affected models every 1,875 miles or when the tire age reaches 18 months. Once the redesigned tires have been completed and the fault corrected, a second replacement will commence. These repairs will be performed at no cost to the customer.

It goes on to declare that owners who have already reached the 2,500 mile or 18-month mark should not drive their Chiron Pur Sport until a new set of tires is applied. It concludes that owner notification letters are expected to be mailed to owners throughout this month and that Bugatti customer services can be contacted via a simple phone call to make the replacement booking.

The issue that causes the early cracks has not yet been identified by Michelin. During the tire analysis, Bugatti has also been assured that any tire with less than 2,500 miles or 18 months on its lifespan should have no increased tendency for bead area crack propagation in comparison to the standard and properly maintained tire.

Due to this situation, the report also confirms that cars currently being produced have been stopped for delivery because the root cause analysis is still underway. The Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport is the French marque's driver-focused iteration of the hypercar of which only 60 units will be assembled. Production commenced in 2020 with the first American model being delivered to its customer in January last year.
