Bugatti has delivered more than 300 Chirons and has orders for 150 more.
Bugatti got off to a strong start in 2021 as the global pandemic eased. It's one of many luxury automakers that saw a sales jump January through March. The French brand joins BMW, which posted a 33.5 percent increase, Volvo, which jumped 40.8 percent and Rolls-Royce, which had its best quarter in its 116-year history.
Bugatti makes four cars: Chiron, Chiron Sport, Chiron Pur Sport, and Divo, the latter three all based on the former. So really, one car. Like Rolls, Bugatti delivered more vehicles in Q1 than any other three-month period in the company's modern history, "exceeding its self-assigned targets."
"Every single hyper sports car that we hand over to Bugatti customers is unique and exclusive. Our production will of course also be fully utilized for the next few weeks and months," says Stephan Winkelmann, President of Bugatti.
"What I'm also pleased about is that despite the Covid-19 pandemic, we were able to further develop Bugatti's entire performance spectrum, which we have already either delivered to some of our anticipating customers, or will be able to deliver very soon."
Amazingly, Bugatti has delivered more than 300 Chirons since its inception in 2017. The company says it has orders for 150 more. The "base" Chiron, at nearly $3 million, delivers an astounding 1,479 hp and 1,180 lb-ft of torque from its 8.0-liter, quad-turbocharged W16 (that's two V8s, next to each other). The rest are faster and more powerful.
"Even if face-to-face contact is still rare in 2021 and the number of digital meetings have increased, we were able to maintain a relationship and contact with our customers and friends of the brand," says Stephan Winkelmann. "So far, we've met less often than my team and I and would have liked, but hopefully that will change soon. My thanks go to the entire team for this great performance."
Elsewhere in Bugattiland, we have the Centodieci to look forward to. That's a homage to the iconic EB 110 (in fact, that's what centodieci means). It's in its final stages of testing. We also have the Chiron Super Sport 300+, which will aim for, you guessed it, a top speed of more than 300 mph.
