The fact that Honda has decided to sell the all-new Civic Type R in the US and not just Europe and Japan for the first time ever is a pretty big deal. American hot hatch enthusiasts have been clamoring for this car for years, and it's finally happening. And now Honda, which has teamed up with Bring A Trailer, is auctioning online the very first production Civic Type R (VIN 001). The auction is taking place right now and will close on June 15, with all proceeds benefitting the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation.

"The Civic Type R has long been forbidden fruit for enthusiasts in the US, so we thought it would be fun to offer one lucky customer a shot at owning the first of its kind in America while benefiting the leading nonprofit solely dedicated to finding a cure for childhood brain tumors," stated Honda Senior Vice President Jeff Conrad. Although all Civic Type Rs will be built in Honda's Swindon, UK plant, its turbocharged 2.0-liter i-VTEC four cylinder with 306 hp will be produced in Anna, Ohio, which happens to be Honda's largest engine plant in the world. The Civic Type R also recently just set a new Nurburgring lap record time of 7:43.8, which is more than three seconds faster than the previous record.
