Buy This 1991 Chevy Camaro Z/28 1LE While They're Still Cheap

And it's a manual!

Of the big three muscle cars on sale in the US - Ford Mustang, Dodge Challenger, and Chevrolet Camaro - the Mustang continues to rule on the sales charts. In fact, sales of the Camaro fell by a disappointing 47 percent in Q2 2020, and doubt has been cast over the model's future. But whatever happens to the Camaro down the line, the nameplate hasn't attained legendary status by chance.

Just like today's ZL1, there have been some memorable sportier variants of the Camaro through the decades, like the 1991 Camaro Z/28 1LE we just stumbled upon on eBay. Forming part of the third-generation Camaro launched in 1982, it features angular styling that marked a total departure from the version it succeeded. And it's so deliciously 80's.

The example here is one of just 478 versions with the 1LE package produced in 1991, and one of just 289 of those that came with a five-speed manual transmission. The seller also claims that the Rare Ultra Blue Metallic paint is much less common than the red, black, and white versions. Initially purchased in Dallas, Texas, it now has a mere 38,310 miles on the clock and the seller rates the body at a "9.5/10", with no dents, dings, or rust.

Apparently, the dealer began converting this Camaro into a racing car, with upgrades including a short-throw shifter and different fuel injectors. But they didn't seem to get too far.

The 305 LB9 TPI V8 engine was rated at 230 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque, which may not sound like much today, but it was perfectly acceptable back in its day, considering it weighed hundreds of pounds less than today's model, on average. The owner also mentions that the Camaro comes with a G92 rear-axle performance package, special gas-filled shocks, and larger, 11.86-inch front rotors. In the interests of weight-saving, it has no air conditioning and the power accessories were also deleted. Currently, it carries a starting bid of $21,499.

With a substantial amount of documentation, we'd advise interested buyers to go through everything carefully, but based on the pictures alone, this is one stunning classic Camaro.
