Cadillac's strong belief in the brand may carry over to additional crossover models.
Senior management at Cadillac is so confident in the strength of the Escalade brand, they say the name may be expanded to cover additional future models. The moniker has been used for years for Caddy's upscale twins of the Chevy Tahoe (Escalade), Suburban (Escalade ESV) and Avalanche (Escalade EXT). But now, the company's senior vice president has told Auto Guide that the name would be used to cover additional future models as well.
Leaning on the success of the Cadillac SRX crossover, the Escalade brand may reach farther to cover Cadillac's planned parenthood of a family of crossovers. These include an Audi Q3 and Mercedes-Benz GLA-fighting entry level model, and a larger crossover that should launch in 2016. The latter will share its platform with next-generation Chevrolet Traverse and Buick Enclave and compete against other three-row luxury models like the Acura MDX. Cadillac's Senior Vice President Bob Ferguson said: "I just think the Escalade is a strong brand within Cadillac, and I think we should exploit that."
