This is not what a luxury brand like Cadillac needs.
The Blackwing V8 is an ominously named engine from Cadillac that was meant to be something of a trademark engine for the brand, much like the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8s in Porsches, Mercs, and Audis. Each brand has its own way of doing things and the 4.2-liter twin-turbo Blackwing was meant to be the Caddy way of making power. However, the engine has been killed off, even though the CT4-V and CT5-V sedans will wear the Blackwing badge. None of that really matters for one CT6-V owner, however, who posted a video showing his engine out of his car due to alarmingly premature failure.
As you can hear from the tone in the owner's voice, this must be incredibly frustrating and annoying, especially when your $100,000 car hasn't even covered 2,000 miles. The video was posted on TikTok of all places and has since racked up almost 69,000 views. Unfortunately, this kind of bad press rarely has a good outcome for anyone involved. But the pain of this engine failure is all the more difficult to swallow when you consider the numerous alternatives out there that the owner presumably considered before settling on the big Caddy. Look, the car is still a rare one, but it's unlikely that a video like this will have anyone scouring Craigslist for a used version.
This engine is one that Cadillac was quite proud of, even if it only ever saw duty in two models - the aforementioned CT6-V and the CT6 Platinum. In the CT6-V, output was rated at 550 horsepower and 640 lb-ft of torque, while the latter model was limited to 500 hp and 574 lb-ft of torque. There's no word from the owner of the car with the failed engine as to whether warranty coverage is coming through or if any sort of apology has been made by GM, but we'd be willing to bet that the poor guy is unlikely to buy a car with this engine in a hurry again.
