Said to have the world's "most advanced body structure," the upcoming Cadillac flagship sedan, the CT6, is what brand enthusiasts have desired for quite some time. It'll go head-to-head with heavy hitters such as the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Audi A8, and the BMW 7 Series. In other words, Cadillac can't afford to screw up here in the face of these worthy German rivals. Its global luxury aspirations are on the line.

Fortunately, Cadillac has managed to style beautiful cars over the past few years thanks to the evolution of its art and science design language, and the 2016 CT6 won't deviate from this. According to GM global design boss Ed Welburn, the CT6 will "be different and it will certainly stand out in the portfolio, but you won't see a real shift in direction." What's more, don't expect the CT6 to simply be a sedan version of the Elmiraj large coupe concept unveiled at the 2013 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. "I think Elmiraj was more of an influence on some other things we're working on for Cadillac," Welburn hinted.
