Cadillac Lyriq Production Set To Start In A Few Weeks

Electric Vehicles / 9 Comments

The company has penciled in an official starting date for production

The Cadillac Lyriq is a major stepping stone for the brand as it will be its first-ever fully electric vehicle. The exciting product was first shown to us in April last year and gives Cadillac fans something else to fawn over besides the imposing Escalade. This grants it estimated outputs of 340 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque. It will come with the rear-wheel-drive Ultium Platform and a hefty 100-kWh battery pack. Using this, Cadillac says it will cover 300 miles before needing to be recharged. At the beginning of the year, we learned that pre-production for the Lyriq had commenced, displaying the company's intent to maintain its initial launch date. We now have a clearer idea of when actual production examples will roll out of the factory.

This new EV is being put together at the group's Spring Hill assembly plant in Tennessee which recently benefited from a $2-billion renovation to anticipate the arrival of this car together with the upcoming Celestiq.

According to GM Authority, insiders have revealed that the first Debut Edition models will start to roll off the line on March 21, 2022. It's noted that this is just a scheduled date that could change under strange circumstances so it should not be considered as set in stone, but it's promising that production of this exciting EV could begin just weeks from now.

We're sure that many consumers can't wait to take delivery of their Cadillac Lyriq. When reservations for the electric SUV opened, GM noted that all build spots were completely sold out within 19 minutes. Reservations for the Debut Edition followed one day later with all units selling out in 20 minutes. A similar situation was seen with the Chevrolet Silverado EV RST First Editions.

Understanding that demand for its new car could have been higher than it initially expected, GM very quickly decided to open reservations up customer orders after the Debut Edition officially launches later this month. Here's hoping that those who missed out initially manage to secure an order for the new Caddy soon.
