California Lawmaker Crusading To Ban Internal Combustion Engine Entierly

Climate scientists have postulated that the shortage of rainfall in Southern California is due to climate change. Climate denier or not, it’s hard for anyone to deny that the wildfires that ravaged Los Angles and wiped out neighborhoods where California’s elite reside were partially fueled by the dry vegetation that’s usually soaked with more rain by this time of year. And as the fires were sparking earlier this week, yet another California lawmaker went on record in support of a ban on the sale of carbon-spewing cars in the state.

A report by Bloomberg states that assembly member Phil Ting is planing to introduce a bill that would forbid California’s motor vehicle department from registering any vehicles that aren’t considered clean. And by clean, Ting means vehicles that emit no carbon dioxide out of the tailpipe. If it passes, the bill would put the rule into effect by 2040, effectively giving automakers 23 years to develop alternative propulsion technologies and get ZEVs on the road. “Until you set a deadline, nothing gets done,” says Ting. “It’s responsible for us to set a deadline 23 years in advance.” This is an idea that climate-concerned governor Jerry Brown has expressed interest in, citing similar rules adopted by France, the UK, and even China.
