John Hennessey recently pitted a stock Camaro ZL1 against a stock Corvette Z06. This was a very interesting test because both cars were fitted with a six-speed manual transmission, and both came powered by the same LT4 supercharged V8. The test proved that the ZL1 is seriously quick, and could almost keep up with the Corvette. That's why Hennessey decided to pit the ZL1 against some competition from another manufacturer. What better competition than the 707-horsepower Dodge Challenger Hellcat to really test the ZL1?

Hennessey admits that the Hellcat used in the test was fitted with the eight-speed automatic while the ZL1 still used the six-speed manual. So how did these transmission choices impact the drag race?

The Hellcat was victorious, but the drivers and Hennessey think that the automatic transmission gave the Hellcat a nice advantage. They believe that if the Camaro had an automatic or both cars were manual, that the race would have been close to dead-even. We'll just have to wait for Hennessey to get these cars back together so we can see which is faster with the same transmission.
