Tesla police cars are more common than you might think. With instant torque generating impressive performance, Tesla models should have no trouble keeping up with fleeing criminals in high-speed pursuits, and they're cheap to operate compared to V8 police cruisers. Officers just need to keep an eye on the range to avoid embarrassing situations. Like that time when a Model S ran out of juice during a pursuit.

Since the Tesla Cybertruck was unveiled a few months ago, police departments around the world want to add the electric truck to their fleet. Last December, the mayor of Mexico ordered 15 Tesla Cybertrucks to use as police and trash trucks, and Dubai's police force already has a Tesla Cybertruck on order. Now, it seems that police in Canada want a Tesla Cybertruck police cruiser.

On Twitter, Ontario Provincial Police Highway Safety Division sent a message to company founder and CEO Elon Musk to find out whether he thinks the Tesla Model X or Cybertruck would make a better police vehicle.

"Hey @elonmusk can you suggest which model would make a better police car? #Cybertruck or #TeslaX?" Was all the Tweet said. At the time of writing, Elon Musk has not responded to the Tweet.

The OPP even went to the trouble of creating custom photos of the Model X and Cybertruck with traditional black and white police liveries, and the Cybertruck looks suitably intimidating as a police truck.

As well as being fast enough to keep up with criminals and tough enough to take them out in PIT maneuvers, police could also make use of the Tesla Cybertruck's "vault" truck bed, which is large enough to carry a Tesla Cyberquad.

Combine that with its perceived off-road capability, armored protection, a 0-62 mph time of 2.9 seconds, and a range of 500 miles, it's easy to see why Canada's OPP want to convert a Tesla Cybertruck into a police cruiser. Deliveries won't start until next year, so it's going to be a while before we start seeing Tesla Cybertruck police cruisers roaming the streets.
