As Monterey prepares for a celebration of original Caroll Shelby's creations with scores of Cobras and tuned Mustangs set to star at the Motorsports Reunion, Vicari Auto Auction has announced the sale of one of the great man's personal rides. The vehicle up for auction is a 2009 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500KR - those last two letters tellingly standing for King of the Road. One of only 712 produced, Shelby's own Shelby wears Ebony Black paint with tone-on-tone Satin Ebony Stripe.

"The current owner bought this Shelby GT500KR as an investment piece, storing it in a garage and taking it out for the occasional car show. It has less than 1,600 actual miles on the odometer, and both the consigner and the Vicari Auction team are eager for a new enthusiast to enjoy a vehicle that was previously owned by such a legendary name in the performance automotive industry," said Pete Vicari, president of Vicari Auction. The Shelby GT500KR is powered by a supercharged 5.4-liter V8 with 540 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque, and is good for a 0-60 time of 4.3 seconds. It features a short-throw shifter, Brembo brakes, and 18-inch machined aluminum wheels.

The rare Mustang comes with a copy of the previous title in Shelby's name, his signature on the dash, and the bill of sale from Shelby to the current owner. As one of the last cars Shelby owned, we expect plenty of interest when it crosses the block at Vicari's Biloxi Auction, taking place during the Cruisin' the Coast event from October 7-14.
