Italy is rife with coachbuilders and design studios, and while some of them have fallen on hard times, over at Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera it's full steam ahead. Last year at the Geneva Motor Show, Touring came with a design mockup called the Disco Volante. No, it wasn't an Italian nightclub - it was a modern tribute to a circa-1952 classic Alfa Romeo concept of the same name. Now it's bringing the show car back, but in a more functional form.

Previewed by this solitary teaser image, the Disco Volante is getting the 450-horsepower, 4.7-liter V8 built by Ferrari and Maserati for the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione. It's set into a stylish shape hewn from carbon fiber and aluminum, and we'll be looking forward to seeing the finished product at the Geneva show this year, one year after it originally debuted. The Disco won't be the only Alfa clamoring for the limelight at the Swiss expo this year. Alfa Romeo itself will be showcasing the production 4C, and the IED in Turin will be unveiling the Gloria concept.
