Australia will sadly be stuck with FWD sedans soon enough.
America’s Ford Falcon is long gone, and sadly enough, Australia’s will also soon be a thing of the past. As many are well aware, the Australian-built and engineered RWD Falcon has had a longtime rivalry with its fellow Aussie, the Holden Commodore. That car is also on its way out permanently. And like the Ford-Chevy rival in the US, Australians are fiercely loyal to their brands. The Australian Ford Falcon has actually consistently been in production since 1960.
During that long period of time, it's spawned several different body styles, including a sedan, coupe, station wagon, and a two-door ute.The Falcon quickly became a favorite cop car as well as a motorsport star. And all through the years, the Falcon retained its signature V8/RWD formula. That’s what made the Falcon special. It wasn’t always the prettiest car out there, but it had personality. It was a true signature of Australian motoring. Sadly enough, all of Ford Australia manufacturing will come to an end in 2016, and the Falcon will be gone.
