The best-looking VW hatch in years will never reach US enthusiasts.
We all know that Volkswagen opted not to send its slick-looking third-gen Scirocco stateside. As much of a shame that is, it’s even more painful to not have the Scirocco R. Powered by a 2.0-liter TSI four pot with 261 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, this three-door hatchback might not be as practical as its gen five Golf cousin on which it’s based, but most of you will agree that it looks better, even sexier.
What the Scirocco R does offer is a choice between a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic and some real driving fun all wrapped up in a body designed by the man who penned the also gorgeous Audi A5. VW has hinted time and again the US may get the Scirocco. At this point, sadly, the third-gen Scirocco is already too old to be brought to market. A new Scirocco is now in development, so here’s hoping it’ll come stateside in both base and R trims.
