A block-long sinkhole has opened up in a residential neighborhood in north-east Baltimore, swallowing up several cars and forcing the evacuation of a row of houses. According to locals, the ground shook and a loud rumble like the sound of a train could be heard. At first, witnesses thought there had been a landslide but after two days of heavy rain, a massive sinkhole opened up sucking in a number of cars.

No injuries have been reported and it appears that most of the affected cars will be salvageable.
