Earlier this month, Formula 1 team Caterham had a bit of a problem. Well, it was actually a major problem. It announced that it was out of money and could no longer afford to race. At this point in the season, however, there's only one race left: Abu Dhabi this coming Sunday. After missing two races this season already due to lack of funds, Caterham was desperate to compete just once more. After all, the team declared bankruptcy earlier this year and its future is, for now, uncertain.

So it started a crowdfunding campaign with the goal of raising $3.72 million by November 14. Within just a few hours of launching the campaign, 12 percent of the needed funds were raised. And now Caterham has made it official: it will race on Sunday. All told, 82 percent of the needed funds were raised thanks to fans' donations. Where the difference is coming from isn't known, but no matter. Every underdog deserves a fighting chance.
