Question is, will we be seeing this at Detroit?
One thing is clear: a Mustang Shelby GT500 is coming. When it will officially launch remains unknown. Sources indicate the Mustang Shelby GT500 will be a 2019 model, so it’s entirely possible we’ll see a debut in a few weeks’ time at Detroit. In the meantime, a member of the Mustang6G forum has managed to get hold of a few spy photos of the new GT500’s guts, one of which is its supercharged 5.2-liter V8 with a reported 680 hp and 630 lb-ft of torque.
The engine, codenamed ‘Predator,’ has been in development for at least a year, and this leaked image apparently shows it for the first time. First off, sources claim it won’t have a flat plane crankshaft like the GT350, but rather a traditional cross plane crank. Also notice the supercharged sandwiched below the intercooler of the intake manifold. Another leaked image is the “2020 MY North America Vehicle Program – Engine Oil Requirements.” Notice the footnote next to the GT500 engine stating it requires 5W50 oil. Other leaked images include the GT500’s Brembo brakes. In any case, we’ll hopefully learn more in the days and weeks ahead leading up to Detroit.
