Fast & Furious is one of the most popular film franchises right now. Eight films have been released in the main series since 2001, plus the Hobbs & Shaw spin-off this year. A new animated show called 'Fast & Furious: Spy Racers' is also streaming on Netflix this month.

With its fast cars, insane stunts, and exotic locations, you would think the series could be easily adapted into a video game. However, apart from a few forgettable mobile games, there haven't been very many Fast & Furious titles released on consoles and PC. 2013's 'Fast & Furious: Showdown' was poorly received by fans and critics, but now Slightly Mad Studios, the developer behind the Project CARS racing simulation series, is having another go at adapting the Fast & Furious series into a video game.

Fast & Furious Crossroads is described as "a team-based, vehicular-heist action game," with players pulling off daring high-speed heists and stunts. Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez and Tyrese Gibson reprising their roles as Dom, Letty, and Roman in an original story set in the Fast & Furious universe. Joining the cast are Sonequa Martin-Green ('The Walking Dead') and Asia Kate Dillon ('John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum').

An action-packed trailer shows off some of the game's car stunts. We get to see a Plymouth GTX chasing down a tank, some drag racing, and someone jumping from a car onto a moving train. Other cars shown in the trailer include Toretto's iconic Dodge Charger, a Renault Megane, and a custom Land Rover Defender. It looks like a lot of fun, but the graphics look very dated - especially the character models. Hopefully, the developers will have enough time to polish it up before the game releases next year.

"Fast & Furious remains one of the most beloved franchises of all time and continues to innovate in extraordinary ways," said Jim Molinets, SVP of Production, Universal Games and Digital Platforms. "Fast & Furious Crossroads is an authentic experience that stays true to the series by amplifying the signature elements that fans love – a star-studded cast, high-stakes story, over-the-top action, deep family ties and, of course, fast cars."

Releasing on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, 'Fast & Furious Crossroads' is slated to launch in May 2020 to coincide with the theatrical release of 'Fast & Furious 9' the same month.
