Hollywood has made several attempts to capture the excitement of motor racing on the big screen, with films such as 'Grand Prix', 'Le Mans' and 'Rush' representing some of the best. Next month, 'Ford V. Ferrari' could potentially join the list of the greatest motorsport movies ever made.

Directed by James Mangold, Ford V. Ferrari tells the true story of how Ford enlisted American car designer Carroll Shelby, played by Matt Damon, and rebellious British racing driver Kevin Miles, played by Christian Bale, to build a revolutionary race car designed to defeat Ferrari's dominating reign at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966.

That car was the legendary Ford GT40, which went on to beat Ferrari at Le Mans for four consecutive years from 1966 to 1969. It's one of the greatest motorsport rivalries in history; a classic David vs. Goliath story that should translate well to a Hollywood film. The first trailer for Ford V. Ferrari was released in June, followed by a second in September.

Now, with less than a month until the film's theatrical release, 20th Century Fox has released a new featurette showing previously unseen footage. While it showcases the unique friendship between Shelby and Miles, we also get to see some new shots of the film's thrilling racing scenes featuring Chevrolet Corvette race cars and replicas of Ford GT40s and old Ferrari racers battling it out.

The camera shots convey a superb sense of speed, and some of the crash stunts look brutal, reflecting the danger of motorsport from that era. In one scene, a Ferrari 330 P4 can be seen swerving to avoid an accident, only to smash into some trackside hay bales. There are also interviews with Damon and Bale, with Damon describing the film as a "classic underdog story."

Ford V. Ferrari races into cinemas on November 15. This looks like a must-see for gearheads and motorsport fans.
