In case you haven't noticed, the Chevrolet Camaro has been struggling with sales. Not only because demand is diminishing, but also because GM is struggling to produce enough units due to critical supply constraints. The biggest issue, however, is a lack of innovation and updates, while Dodge Challengers and Ford Mustangs get supercharged Hellcat engines and flat-plane crank track toys.

Based on Q1 2022, however, it looks like the Camaro is reeling things back in. Sales for the range continued to decline in North America, including the USA, Canada, and Mexico, but, believe it or not, South Korea's interest in the aging muscle car saw a pleasant increase, albeit in small numbers.

In the USA alone, the Camaro suffered a 5.35% decline in sales compared to the same period last year with 6,710 units delivered. Canada's 25.78% decline didn't help things with a final count of 262 units catered for while Mexico echoed this with a 55.56% decline at eight units sold. South Korea's 92.31% increase in sales may look promising but this only adds 25 units to the final tally.

Looking at the USA in isolation, the Camaro was able to improve its market share from last year's 18% to 21%. This is only because the Mustang suffered a 19.03% decline for Q1 at 13,986 units and the Challenger 26.31% at 11,124 units. The Mustang maintains its dominant share of 44% but the Challenger declines by 3% to make up the remaining 35%.

South Korea's apparent interest in the novel-to-the-region pony car is not indicative of the overall market's interest, as even Chevrolet fans have decried the lack of competitive performance from a Bowtie-branded, front-engine sports car. It's almost like Chevy has given up on the Camaro because the Corvette is so popular.

We don't know if the Camaro has a place in GM's electric-focused future but we are sure that this generation will be put to rest by 2024. Considering that there will be no fundamental changes to the pony car, there's no reason to believe that the sales performance will drastically improve once the supply chain balances out.
