Three-time Indy 500 winner Dario Franchitti will pilot the car on May 25.
Last year GM provided a Corvette Stingray and for 2014 the company is supplying a 2015 Chevy Camaro Z/28 as the pace car for the Indy 500, with three-time winner of the race Dario Franchitti set to pilot the car. This is the eighth time a Camaro has been used as a pace car and the 25th time Chevy has had the honor. This year’s pace car is finished in black with Indy 500 decal, and comes with an aerodynamic body kit, 19-inch forged alloys, and a tasty 7.0-liter V8 underhood delivering 505 hp and 481 lb-ft of torque.
“It is a tremendous honor for me to be asked to drive the Pace Car for the Indianapolis 500,” said Franchitti. “Although I won’t be competing in the Greatest Spectacle in Racing, this will be as close as one person can get to the action. I can’t wait until May in Indianapolis.”
