But Chevy has yet to release an official time.
A rumor popped up on the web yesterday claiming the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 had lapped the Nurburgring in less than seven minutes, 6:59.13 to be exact. A sub-seven minute lap time would put the Z06 in the same category as the likes of the Porsche 918 Spyder, Ferrari LaFerrari, and McLaren P1. But Chevy has now officially debunked that lap time rumor. "Chevrolet has not released a lap record for the Z06 at the Nurburgring," stated a company source, further adding "the claimed time of 6:59 is not accurate."
However, the rumor's origin was a site called HorsepowerKings.com, and just a few days ago this same source was the first to report (accurately) the new Shelby GT350R's Camaro Z/28-beating Nurburgring time. Chevy also claims that, due to recent bad weather, an official Nurburgring lap video hasn't been made yet. The Z06 video, also first posted yesterday, has now been removed. Based on previous Z06 tests at other tracks, it may be more realistic to expect a Nurburgring time of around 7:07 or so – exactly GT-R Nismo territory. More updates to come.
