And they're painted in the same color as their actual cars.
With the long wait for the new C8 Corvette finally over, fans are rushing to the dealerships to snap up what is possibly the best American sports car in recent years. The C8 has been praised by journalists and fans alike for its stunning performance, great handling, and of course its awesome looks. The fact that it's a mid-engined car is just the cherry on the cake. So how do you make such a great car even better?
Well, the folks at Chevrolet believe that making the purchasing journey as personalized as possible will make the overall experience of owning a Corvette even better. Having made moves such as placing a Corvette expert at selected Chevy dealerships, it is now gifting model cars with matching paint jobs to new owners.
Chevrolet has traditionally thanked new Corvette owners with small tokens of appreciation such as a personal letter, or a frameable poster, but now Chevrolet are taking things up a notch with the new C8 by sending new buyers a scale model of their car, painted in the same shade as their actual rides. Chevrolet calls these unique gifts "Speed Shape Models". CorvetteBlogger contributor Jeremy Welborn describes them as being "larger than the traditional 1:25 promotional models and a lot heavier as well."
The models come with a small badge mounted at the front of the piece and feature an engraving of the car's VIN number, and come packaged in a little black box.
Members of the C8 Corvette Owners (And Friends) group on Facebook have started showing of these prized possessions, and there are already black, orange and silver models being displayed on the group. These owners seem really pleased with the deal. Member Bill Clements can't wait for his: "Man I have been checking the mail every day. I should be any day now"
We expect Chevrolet to continue this charming practice on the mighty Corvette Z06 which will feature active aerodynamics and a flat-plane crankshaft on its 5.5-liter V8 when it starts hitting the showroom floors sometime in 2021. We'll have our model in blue.
