Chevy creates another police-oriented vehicle.
Chevy has revealed the 2015 Silverado 1500 SSV that’s set to go on sale this summer with special features for police use. Joining the carmaker’s growing portfolio of police vehicles, the Silverado Special Service Vehicle package will be rolled out with the Silverado 1500 Crew Cab in 1WT or 1LS trims. It comes with a 5.3-liter EcoTec V8 rated at 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque that manages 23 mpg on the highway.
Standard gear on the Silverado SSV includes a 170-amp high-output alternator and 730-CCA auxiliary battery giving officers the ability to operate lights, computers, radios, cameras and other equipment while the engine is off. The pickup also comes with a 110-volt outlet powering four upfitter switches located on the center stack. Optional goodies include an auxiliary dome lamp, spotlamp, rearview camera, head- and taillight flasher system, lamp and sires, and a “common key” so municipalities can use a single key to operate all their Silverado SSVs and Tahoe PPVs.
