The Chevrolet Sonic has been given the American automaker's RS badge, meaning that sportiness will come standard in the latest version of their hot hatch. For starters, the Sonic RS will pack a turbocharged 1.4-liter Ecotec 4-cylinder engine capable of putting out 138hp and 148 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to a six speed transmission available in either automatic or manual configuration.

To deal with the added power, the Sonic RS has received four wheel disc brakes, a sports tuned exhaust and stiffer suspension. On the exterior, the Sonic RS features a new front fascia complete with new grille and fog lights, new rear fascia and spoiler and a set of 17-inch wheels. The hot hatch also comes in four new colors: Summit White, Cyber Gray Metallic, Black Granite and Victory Red. The interior gets some new and sporty accoutrements to give the hatch the feel of a real sports car.

Some of the new amenities include a pair of sport seats, aluminum pedals, custom shift knob for the manual and a sports steering wheel. Chevrolet has also added their MyLink infotainment system with smartphone connectivity and satellite navigation system. The Chevrolet Sonic RS is currently on display at the 2012 North American International Auto Show.
