Automotive News has reported the Chevrolet plans to debut a new Camaro special edition every 6 months. The idea is to re-introduce names that are synonymous with the Camaro's past. This will also help to generate increased buzz about the Camaro as its sales last year exceeded those of the Ford Mustang. According to chief engineer for the Camaro, Al Oppenheimer, the plan is "to keep evolving the Camaro...it has so much of a rich heritage that we can put together the right combination of content.

We have a lot of rich names to choose from." Most recently, Chevrolet launched the 2012 Camaro ZL1 at the Chicago Auto Show. It's name was taken from the 1969 Camaro ZL1, which, at the time, "was the fastest Chevrolet ever produced." The next special edition Camaro will likely be new Transformers edition that's linked to the upcoming film sequel that'll premiere in July. This coming spring will also see Chevrolet offering 500 replicas of the 2011 Camaro SS convertible pace car for the Indianapolis 500.
