Chevrolet To Fix Corvette Z06 For Free After Its Engine Failed After 52 Miles

Engine / 33 Comments

His engine will be repaired or replaced after a series of videos detailing his struggles with getting his car attended to by the dealer.

Chevrolet Corvette Z06 buyer Marco Garcia's engine failed after just 52 miles, leading to a series of online complaints as he tried to get the issue resolved; now the C8 enthusiast has revealed that he is finally getting the kind of service he deserves, and GM will fix his car at no cost. As a result, he has opted to remove the videos of his complaints from social media, posting the below update.

Before we unpack this any further, let's provide some background. Garcia did not abuse his car in any way and was well aware of the 500-mile break-in period for street use (1,500 miles for track use).

Garcia reportedly paid at least $50,000 in markup fees for a total north of $180,000 (presumably including some optional extras), and the dealer in charge of his sale was apparently difficult to deal with in the initial stages of this process. However, Garcia was finally given three options: take a full refund, configure an all-new build to his own taste, or accept a repair.

Most of us would want a brand-new Z06, but Garcia says he was unwilling to wait six months for another Z06. He also had no interest in being paid out because he really wants a Z06 to modify as a complement to his Stingray. Thus, he opted to have his black Z06 fixed, but even that will take a couple of months. Fortunately, a comprehensive Platinum Protection Plan (a 100,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty) was thrown in for good measure.

It's unclear what the cause of the issue was or how it will be resolved, but it appears that Garcia will be getting a new engine, which is certainly more favorable than having a faulty component replaced. Garcia says that he's "bummed" about having to wait even longer for his Z06 but is ultimately happy with the treatment he received after his initial complaints went viral on various platforms.

We'd love to know what the issue with the highly-strung engine was. When the C8 was first launched, it had its fair share of problems in Stingray form. We sincerely hope that this pattern will not be repeated with the Z06, but if you know of any other C8 Z06 issues, please get in touch with the writer via one of the channels listed below.
