General Motors is making big moves in the electric vehicle space, announcing back in March its plans for a dedicated new scalable EV platform, a hand-built battery-electric flagship model for Cadillac, a cutting-edge battery pack architecture that might help the company's EVs reach price parity with gas vehicles - the works.

But until those plans come to fruition, the trusty Chevrolet Bolt EV alone will be the face of GM's electric vehicle aspirations. Now, GM wants to give everyone a crash course in Electric Propulsion 101, with a new online "Bolt EV Academy" video series.

Like the Corvette Academy video series, Bolt EV Academy aims to walk owners and potential customers alike through the basics of ownership, from charging at home or on a road trip, to one-pedal driving and on-demand energy regeneration, to cold-weather driving tips and beyond. The series kicked off on Friday with a series of 15 videos on Chevrolet's official YouTube channel, website, and mobile app for owners.

Much of the content won't be news to existing Chevrolet Bolt EV owners, of course, but for prospective customers and those on the fence about owning an EV, demystifying some of the ownership experience might be critical. That's especially true as, even after EVs have spent so many years on the market, scores of Americans remain concerned about the driving range and availability of recharging stations.

Of all the Chevrolet Bolt EV quirks that might impress the average gas-engine car driver, its One Pedal Driving mode has to be one of the most intriguing. The special EV-only driving mode lets the driver accelerate and slow to a halt without touching the brake pedal, using regenerative braking to brake the vehicle any time he or she lifts off the accelerator. Not only is it good fun - it can also boost efficiency, especially in stop-and-go city driving.

A revamped Chevrolet Bolt is expected later on in the year, with tweaked styling and a dramatically improved interior, while a new Bolt "EUV" (or "Electric Utility Vehicle") is set to arrive some time next year.
