Chevrolet has unveiled a new special edition at the 2022 Guangzhou International Auto Show, and it's based on the recently revealed Seeker crossover.

Known as the Xingmailuo RL Weifeng Edition, the new model features special matte black paintwork, uplifted by contrasting red trim on the grille, side mirror caps, badging, tailgate, and more. The Seeker has been stripped of its chrome trim for a more sinister effect.

The eye-catching X-shaped design at the front is more subdued here thanks to the darkened effect and works well with the sporty honeycomb grille. A standard panoramic sunroof and black-painted wheels finish everything off nicely.

The interior has been treated to the same color scheme. The ventilated and heated seats are upholstered in two-tone black/white leather, while the steering wheel and door cards receive Alcantara trim. Splashes of red can be found all over the cabin. The plush pews boast crimson stitching while, elsewhere, the racy hue has been applied to the three-spoke steering wheel, air vents, and door cards.

It's not to our taste, but the Seeker name has been etched into the armrest in white lettering and is joined by what appears to be a cartoon tiger. Other than these additions, the Seeker has a reasonably straightforward interior. It's well-equipped, too, with six-way power-adjustable front seats and two 10.25-inch digital displays, through which the driver can operate the navigation, Apple CarPlay, and many more functions.

The special edition Seeker also ships standard with GM's Tune Dynamic surround sound system, which should be a treat for audiophiles. Other luxuries include a power-operated tailgate, rain-sensing windscreen wipers, a heated steering wheel, and wireless phone charging.

Under the bonnet, you'll find a relatively pedestrian turbocharged 1.5-liter, four-cylinder engine with 181 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels via a CVT transmission. Despite these mediocre outputs, the bow-tie brand claims the crossover can scamper to 62 mph in 7.9 seconds, which is pretty brisk for a car of this sort. Based on the WLTC cycle, it should return approximately 36.2 mpg.

Chevrolet currently sells several similarly-sized crossovers in North America, so it's unlikely that the Seeker will join the likes of the Trax, Trailblazer, and Equinox stateside.

Then again, we recently learned that Buick Envista - a model previously thought to be a Chinese exclusive - would be making its way to America. Once it arrives, it will soon be joined by the all-electric Buick Electra, which is slated to join the local Buick lineup in 2024.

GM may see fit to introduce the Seeker, but we don't see that happening. If the American automotive giant wants to poach a China-only design, perhaps the FNR-XE concept would be better. It would give the company a handsome Tesla Model 3 fighter and add some diversity to a crossover-rich lineup.
