This stunning creation is the work of Vision Retro Designs.
If you crave the style of a classic muscle car with the performance and amenities of a modern one, then this custom Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Convertible may be just the car for you. Yes, Camaro - not Chevelle. This unique creation, built by Vision Retro Designs, blends the exterior style of the iconic Chevelle Super Sport with the innards of a modern Camaro.
A 6.2-liter V8 engine sends power to the rear wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission. The engine bay wears carbon fiber embellishments, with the strut tower brace and engine bay shroud trimmed in the lightweight material. Stopping power comes courtesy of Brembo brakes at all four corners hidden behind Schott Performance Accelerator Wheels. These retro-styled rims are wrapped in sticky Michelin Pilot 4S rubber.
The entire body is fashioned from carbon fiber, making this ostensibly lighter than the original bodywork.
This custom exterior bodywork, known as the A69 Chevelle Series treatment, is hand-laid by Vision Retro Design. This is the first example produced and features the prominent "dual dome" hood, which gives the Camaro plenty of presence. The Camaro's sleek headlights have been replaced with quad halo headlights, which flank an original Chevelle SS radiator grille.
The body has been finished in a rich shade known as Strato Blue Metallic, with white D96 beltline stripes flowing down either side of the body. Authentic SS badges festoon the bodywork. Round back, the Camaro's angular lines make way for the Chevelle's voluptuous rump, with prominent fender lines flowing to the old-school taillights.
Look closely, and you'll notice the carefully concealed rear parking sensors, which betray the vehicle's age. Quad exhaust pipes add extra menace to the rear fascia and provide a beautiful V8 soundtrack.
The Camaro ZL1 interior has been upgraded with high-end trimmings and materials. All four seats are shod in black Nappa leather with white accents, while the dashboard and door cards get custom carbon fiber inlays. Chevy's stock sill plates have also been swapped for sportier carbon fiber items.
All the luxuries found in a Camaro ZL1 are still present. A seven-inch touchscreen display takes care of your entertainment needs, while the climate control and several other amenities look out for your comfort. Vision Retro Design has, thankfully, retained the Magnetic Ride Control suspension.
We've seen modernized classic cars in the past, but this custom Camaro takes it to another level. It's an epic piece of design, and if you want to park this example in your garage, you're in luck. Mecum Auctions will sell this vehicle at the Indy 2023 event in May, where it will likely change hands for a great deal of money.
