Every new Chevrolet, GMC, and 2020+ Buick vehicles comes with a 36 month/36,000-mile warranty as standard. For 2017-2019 model-year Buicks and all Cadillacs, this increases to 48 months or 50,000 miles. For most people who swap cars after a few years, this is more than enough coverage to give peace of mind while extended warranties tend to be expensive at dealerships.

However, if you plan on keeping your car for a long time and want extra protection, GM is now offering optional extended limited warranty plans for its entire model range. For Chevrolet, 2020+ Buick, and GMC vehicles, the new extended warranty lasts for 60 months or 60,000 miles, while 2017-2019 Buick, and Cadillac models are covered for 72 months or 70,000 miles.

Unsurprisingly, pricing for GM's new extended warranty package varies considerably depending on the value of the car. For low-budget cars like the Chevrolet Spark, Sonic and Cruze, the extended warranty costs $1,030. Pickup trucks like the Colorado and Silverado 1500/2500HD, and GMC Sierra 1500/2500HD, on the other hand, can be covered for $1,416.

All Buick models can be covered with the extended warranty for an extra $1,670. Extended warranties for the GMC Canyon 2WD, Sierra 1500/2500HD 2WD cost $1,334, while the Chevrolet Suburban, Silverado 3500HD, Low Cab Forward, and Medium Duty Silverado 4500HD-6500HD cost $1,712.

If you want extra protection for your Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, it will cost you $2,238. Unsurprisingly, luxury Cadillac models like the new Escalade have the most expensive extended warranties, which cost $2,800. Don't be surprised if some dealers charge even more than GM is advertising.

It's worth noting that GM's extended warranty is only available to cars that were delivered for the 2017 model year or later and is not available for rental cars. It's also not available in dealers located in California, Florida, Maine or Minnesota, but customers who live in these locations can still take advantage of the offer by visiting a dealer in an eligible location.
