Hypersonic Gray, Caffeine, and Amplify Orange are the new additions.
Once the last 2020 Chevrolet Corvette C8s were ordered late last year, we were able to find out what the most popular options and colors were for this mid-engined sports car. The findings revealed that Torch Red, Arctic White, and Black were the most popular colors, in that order. New colors and stripe options were added for the 2021 model and now Chevy has revealed the additions to the color palette for the 2022 model.
The 2022 Corvette can be ordered in Hypersonic Gray Metallic, Amplify Orange Tintcoat, and Caffeine Metallic. This confirms earlier information revealed in February but now we get to see what these colors look like for the first time.
Of the three new colors, announced at the 2021 National Corvette Museum's 2021 celebration, the Hypersonic Gray is our favorite. Sebring Orange was the fourth most popular color for 2020 Corvettes so the similar Amplify Orange should do quite well. Caffeine is probably the most unique of the three new colors and the closest comparable color in the existing palette is Zeus Bronze. However, Zeus Bronze emerged as the least popular color for 2020 orders and was chosen by only 2.7% of customers, so we don't expect Caffeine to be hugely popular. Shadow Gray, Zeus Bronze, and Sebring Orange are expected to be dropped from the selection imminently.
Other than the revised color palette, Chevy has not shared any further information about the 2022 Corvette. However, we do expect the high-performance Corvette Z06 to debut as an exciting addition to the lineup. Previous reports indicate that the Z06's 5.5-liter flat-pane crank V8 will produce well over 600 horsepower and be able to rev to a screeching 9,000 rpm. The base C8 is already wickedly quick with its output of up to 495 hp so one can only imagine how good the Z06 will be. We'll take ours in the new Hypersonic Gray with black-painted wheels and a few tasty carbon fiber accessories.
