2022 has started with a bang for Chevrolet. The company took the covers off its Silverado EV, an electric truck that will directly do battle with Ford's F-150 Lightning. Both automakers must be thrilled to take advantage of the fact that the Tesla Cybertruck seems further away with each passing day. But General Motors isn't stopping with the Silverado EV, after announcing electric versions of the Blazer and Equinox as well. But new sketches from the GM design department show us what the Silverado could've looked like if it hadn't been toned down to look somewhat conventional. Conventional is relative here, as the Silverado EV is a departure from typical truck design. Still, as these sketches show, things could've looked even more radical.

Shown from the front, the design of the first sketch is aggressive and futuristic. Like the Silverado EV, there is a LED lighting strip that runs across the face. Unlike today's ICE trucks which have garishly large grilles, this concept proves that you don't need a big grille - or any grille at all - to make a statement. Higher up on the hood and two more slim light strips, while towing hooks have been neatly integrated lower down. The two-tone red and black paint adds to the drama. The next sketch looks more like a low crossover, but that could simply be because the chunky rubber found on most trucks isn't visible.

The third illustration shares many of the same design themes like a closed-off grille section, ultra-slim headlights, and a powerful hood. The fourth sketch by another designer shows the new Silverado EV before its appearance was simplified for production. Without a doubt, we think that these sketches and the new Silverado EV look a lot better than the current, gas-powered Silverado 1500. Chevy also seems to have chosen a more adventurous stylistic path with its electric trucks, whereas Ford's F-150 Lightning isn't a dramatic departure from the normal F-150. Considering that it took only 12 minutes for the Silverado EV First Edition models to sell out before we have any idea of what this truck is like to drive, customers seem to be won over by Chevy's efforts already.
