Chevy SS Not-So-Safety Car Catches Fire in NASCAR Daytona Beach

Accident

Chevy dealerships ponder “buy 1 get 1 free” offer after embarrassing outing for the SS.

Last weekend's NASCAR race in Daytona Beach, Florida, turned out to be a marketing nightmare for Chevrolet, as the SS pace car inexplicably caught fire as it lead the field during the start of the final segment of the Sprint Unlimited. Watch as smoke starts to appear and fill the cabin before something electrical ignites at the back. Pace-car driver Brett Bodine is then forced to come to a complete stop before quickly exiting the Holden Commodore-based Chevy.

No injuries were suffered to driver or co-pilot, while another car took on the role as pace setter.
