Built specifically for China, BMW has unveiled the 530Le plug-in hybrid at the 2014 Guangzhou Auto Show. Like the X5 eHybrid, the 530Le pairs a four-cylinder N20 unit with a ZF eight-speed auto and an electric motor instead of a torque converter. Based on the long wheelbase 5er, which is built in China by Brilliance-BMW, the plug-in hybrid boasts 272 hp, has a 58-km pure electric range and an average fuel efficiency of 112 mpg.
