China's Newest EV Was Built With Help From Huawei

And it doesn't look half bad.

Tesla might have a strong foothold in China, with the locally produced Model 3 and Model Y still showing strong sales figures, but local manufacturers are entering the market at an ever-increasing rate. EV startup Nio recently launched its first-ever sedan, the ET7, and Aiways is getting ready to destroy the Tesla Model Y with its U6 crossover. At the lower-end of the market, SAIC-GM, a joint venture between General Motors and China's SAIC Motor, is building the Wuling Hong Guang Mini EV at only $4,460. Now there's yet another new kid on the block.

The latest fighter to step onto the Chinese EV battlefield is known as Avatr Technology, and marks telephone tech giant Huawei's entry into this competitive, and highly lucrative market.

Avatr Technology is a joint venture between Changan Automobile and lithium-ion battery provider CATL, which is a rebranded version of the venture between Changan Automobiles and Nio. Changan recently increased its stake in the partnership to 95.8 percent, and will be making use of Huawei's technologies. The new company's first offering will be the Avatr 11, a sleek and sexy EV crossover SUV that aims to take the fight to Tesla.

The Avatr 11 is a conglomeration of various cars we've seen before, but brings it all together in a style that's all its own. The side profile offers hints of Jaguar and Tesla. Looking at the front-end, it's pretty clear that Avatr got a bit of its inspiration from the Porsche Taycan, and the rear end is finished with a contemporary-cool LED strip. The car rides on the obligatory set of oversized wheels, and seems to have a decent amount of ground clearance. According to the manufacturer, the Avatr 11 will reach 60 mph in less than four seconds and has a range of 435 miles on a single charge. It looks good, and the figures sound impressive, now let's see it in the flesh.
