The Chinese are going racing in the UK.
The British Touring Car Championship's latest entrants are a pair of Chinese racecars from MG Motors (MG Motors are owned by Shanghai Auto). The MG6 GT five-door-based racers are being prepped by Triple Eight Race Engineering of Vauxhall-BTCC fame. Another BTCC cornerstone on the crew is driver Jason Plato. Plato is not only a 68-time winner in the series and a two-time overall champion, but he is also a host of Fifth Gear.
Holding records in pole position, fastest laps and podiums, he should provide an added edge to MG. He joins Andy Neate in piloting the racecars. On the British-ness of the team and his signing on to drive, Plato said "It's really exciting to be involved in a brand-new all-British team and it's just brilliant that the iconic name of MG will be back on the track." This year marks the 55th running of the British Touring Car Championship. The MG KX Momentum Racing Team will make their debut on April 1st at the Tour opener at Brands Hatch, UK.
