The Porsche 911 Carrera is in a different league, but the Corvette Stingray is in a league all of its own.
Hooning the new Corvette Stingray was the primary aim of Chris Harris’ latest Drive video, but there is also an interesting question to be answered: Is it any longer fair to compare a base Corvette to a Porsche Carrera? Given the Corvette he took to the track comes in at the same price as the Porsche’s optional extras, probably not. That’s right, you can now spec a Porsche 911 with $60,000 worth of optional goodies, while you can walk out of a Chevy showroom with a base C7 Stingray for just $52k.
The answer to the question is therefore a resounding no. But who cares? The Stingray is in a class of its own. For the money nothing comes close to its performance. The Porsche is twice the price – but is it twice the fun?
