Chris Harris Reviews the Pointless Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG

There's no good reason for this car to exist. And that's why people love it.

Originally built for the army back in 1972, the G Wagon was first sold to the public in 1979 and has managed to prevail ever since. Chris Harris took out the latest incarnation to try and figure out why.

Following Evo's recent review, it was Chris' turn to test drive the 2013 G63 AMG around the windy Swabian countryside and on the autobahn. It doesn't take him long to come to the same conclusion that it's terrible round corners, lacks any aerodynamics whatsoever, but thanks to a 5.5-liter biturbo V8 that delivers 544hp and 560lb-ft of torque, it has the capacity to keep up with plenty of the more traditional looking 500+ horsepower cars on the road. That ability alone is why people are prepared to fork out $130,000 for this batcrazy machine.
