With all of the hype surrounding EVs and hybrids, it's almost difficult to believe that there are manufacturers that don't offer anything along these lines. The lack of a Chrysler hybrid wasn't particularly upsetting to those of us who found the Challenger SRT8 392 exciting, but big car companies need to make products for everybody if they want to compete. So Chrysler has plans for a new hybrid, due in 2013.
The vehicle they've chosen to put their hybrid drivetrain into is the new 300. Not exactly a tiny econobox, a hybrid 300 isn't going to have a huge impact on Chrysler's CAFE rating. Nor is it likely to attract many customers away from the Toyota Prius. This makes it very likely that this new hybrid will suffer the same fate as the ill-conceived Durango/Aspen hybrid. Chrysler would do well to learn from GM and make a hybrid that people actually want.
