Let's be honest, Chrysler's current lineup doesn't get the heart racing; there are a few minivans and the fossilized 300 on offer. In fact, Chrysler's entire future has been up in the air for quite some time, but it looks like the historic brand will be making a big comeback in the near future with some exciting new models, including a bunch of electrified cars. The 300 has been living on borrowed time, which is why it came as a surprise to many that Chrysler decided to update the car for the 2023 model year, but with no SRT model on offer, no one has really taken notice. However, the brand has hinted at a 300 SRT special edition, and those hints seem to be materializing.

Earlier this week we reported that Chrysler plans to make a special announcement at next week's Detroit Motor Show, which is part of brand owner Stellantis' big move to reinvent and revitalize its catalog of products. One thing we know for sure is that Chrysler has been toying with EVs, and the Airflow concept has been making headlines, but it's not close to being production ready, and a teaser image stating that Chrysler will "bring the power" had us wondering if a high-performance 300 could arrive. Stellantis has given Dodge the Charger Super Bee, and Challenger Shakedown, both of which use the same 6.4-liter naturally aspirated V8 once used in the 300 SRT, so it would make sense, right? A teaser image showing a set of big two-tone wheels and red brake calipers with the term '300c" in the URL all but confirms that a hot version is on its way.

Chrysler has said of the teaser image that it will be introducing "one of the most powerful and luxurious" special editions yet which will be sold in 'limited numbers'. Cool story Chrysler, but we thought the whole reason the 300 SRT was dropped in the first place was because of a lack of interest. On the flip side, the death of the V8 muscle car will make last-generation V8 cars highly popular, and a massively powerful 300 is just what the doctor ordered. For masses of Florida men.

Chrysler will reveal more info at the 2022 Detroit Motor Show, and said that it will be available next spring. As far as power outputs go, if Chrysler sticks with the 6.4-liter engine, expect 470 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. That would be a disappointment, especially if this car is to be a limited edition model. Many fans will be hoping for a Hellcat powertrain, which means 6.2-liters of supercharged V8 with 717 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque. Either way, the Chrysler 300 lives to fight another day, as wannabe mobsters rejoice.
