Classic Clarkson: Porsche Carrera GT

Video

"Not only is it one of the fastest and most exciting cars I’ve ever driven, it is also one of the most beautiful."

In 2004, the pinnacle of the Top Gear power-lap leaderboard was dominated by the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren – the very same car with which we started our on-again, off-again series of Classic Clarkson video segments. But then came the Porsche Carrera GT. A race-derived supercar to the SLR’s automatic-shifting luxury GT, the Carrera was about as extreme as it came. With a competition-spec 5.7-liter V10 driving 612 horsepower to the rear wheels, the Carrera GT ran 0-60 in under four seconds and topped out over 200 mph.

So what did Jeremy think of it, aside from getting very excited about the silicon-carbide brakes? And more importantly, how did it fare in the Stig’s hands around the Top Gear test track? Tune in below to travel rapidly back in time and find out.
