In 2004, the pinnacle of the Top Gear power-lap leaderboard was dominated by the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren – the very same car with which we started our on-again, off-again series of Classic Clarkson video segments. But then came the Porsche Carrera GT. A race-derived supercar to the SLR’s automatic-shifting luxury GT, the Carrera was about as extreme as it came. With a competition-spec 5.7-liter V10 driving 612 horsepower to the rear wheels, the Carrera GT ran 0-60 in under four seconds and topped out over 200 mph.
