The market is not short on companies ready to restore a classic car and modify it with modern conveniences. Kindred Motorworks is taking a different approach to restomodding, though. It aims not just to bring contemporary performance and reliability to classic cars but also to make maintenance easy.

The first vehicles Kindred is releasing are a Kindred Bronco, based on the 1966-1975 Ford Bronco model, and Kindred Volkswagen Bus, based on the 1950-1967 model.

"Historically, the restoration of vintage cars is a time-consuming process that is dependent on a small population of rapidly aging master mechanics who use a significant number of different partners and suppliers," the company stated. Kindred's answer to that is standardization for each phase of the restomod process and the parts used.

Starting with the Kindred Bronco, it comes with an all-new interior that includes a modern high-end sound system, rearview camera, leather trim, removable and reversible rear bucket seats, Bluetooth, cupholders along with several modern touches. Powering the legendary Bronco SUV is a choice between a 460-hp Ford 3rd Generation Coyote 5.0-liter V8 or an all-electric drivetrain with a 200-mile range.

To effectively stop the Kindred Bronco, the classic SUV drums get kitted out with six-piston disc brakes on the front and four-piston disc brakes at the back. Kindred also offers packages for families or off-roading and a hardtop with a locking tailgate.

The Kindred Volkswagen Bus is a different beast and is only offered with an electric powertrain. It comes with adjustable coilover suspension all-around, a double-wishbone suspension design at the front, four-wheel disc brakes, and a custom leather interior.

Following the Bronco and Bus, Kindred will launch a classic Camaro powered by a GM 6.2-liter supercharged LS V8 with 700 hp and shifted by a six-speed manual transmission. It will also feature a power rack and pinion steering, independent rear suspension, and a 9-inch Torsen limited-slip differential. From there. Kindred says it will introduce several models per year. The Bronco and Bus are available for preorder now.

It's clear that Kindred is looking to become a new standard in the restomod industry by fashioning itself in the shape of a budding automaker. At the core is Kindred's proprietary Blueprint platform that "manages and standardizes every aspect of Kindred's production and development ecosystem."

"Restoring my own classic car showed me that this was a process that I could improve upon," says Rob Howard, Founder and CEO of Kindred Motorworks. "My prior experience working with supply chains and technology helped us remove pain points in both the production process and ownership experience. At Kindred Motorworks, we've taken the customer's formerly irrational desire for a vintage car and made it completely justifiable."
