Classic Ghibli up for auction at Silverstone after 14 years in storage.
Collectors dream of a barn find: stumbling upon a classic car that’s just been gathering dust in some barn somewhere, with low mileage and just begging for a bit of TLC. And that’s just what the team at Silverstone Auctions has found here. This 1968 Maserati Ghibli has been sitting for 14 years in dry storage, and will now be put up for auction at the International Trophy Sale on May 17 at the Silverstone Circuit in the UK with a low estimate of around £14,000 but in need of thorough restoration.
The Ghibli, for those unfamiliar, was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro while he was at Ghia, and was built by Maserati from 1966 through 1973. It was ferociously powerful for its time, with a 330-horsepower V8, and is regarded as one of the most beautiful GTs of its era. It’s so evocative, in fact, that Maserati has chosen to revive the name for its upcoming mid-size performance sedan.
