The covers were due to come off the 2021 Lexus IS facelift this week on June 9, but Lexus decided to postpone the reveal due to the "recent global situation." With more pressing events going on in the world, this seemed like the right decision.

Lexus didn't announce a revised reveal date at the time, but we now know when the 2021 Lexus IS will break cover. Luckily, we don't have to wait much longer as Lexus has confirmed the 2021 IS will now be unveiled on June 15 at 7 pm EDT. Accompanying the announcement is a new teaser video giving us a look at the sports sedan's refreshed styling.

We get a much clearer look at the 2021 Lexus IS' redesigned taillights, which are connected by a slim full-width light bar, and wider rear track. The model shown in the teaser is the IS 350 F Sport model, which will most likely utilize the current model's 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 311 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque.

The current model's 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder rated at 241 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque should also carry over. Rumors also suggest a range-topping IS 500 with a naturally-aspirated 5.0-liter V8 will be available exclusively for the US market, but this hasn't been officially confirmed by Lexus yet.

We still haven't seen the interior yet, but the cabin should get some tech upgrades including an updated infotainment system. Tweaks to the chassis and suspension will also improve the handling.

With its sportier looks, sharper handling, and revamped interior, the 2021 Lexus IS model will have more updates than a typical refresh to help it battle the BMW 3 Series. Despite this, it will still ride on the same N platform as the original 2013 model, although there were rumors the 2021 Lexus IS will ride on a new rear-wheel-drive platform co-developed by Mazda.
